Despite the drawbacks of macros in Excel pricing tools, what are some of the navigation improvements they work well for?

  • for complex tools with multiple pricing and/or input tabs, macros give you one-click options for opening what you need to see, and closing what you don't,

  • similarly, lengthy input and pricing tabs with grouping and other functionality applied can benefit from macros opening and closing sections within.

  • for tools that require certain selections be made for pricing to advance, macros can take users directly to incomplete items.

  • versioning your budget to the next iteration automatically (e.g., going from Change Order 2 to 3).
